By acaron , May 1, in Shore Leave. Just wondering. How many of you have a model shipbuilding club near you? I'll start. The nearest one to me is miles north of here in Atlanta. I have a 75 mile drive for mine over in Columbus. I think that they are pretty scarce these days.
Luckily we have this place which while not exactly the same is a pretty good substitute. There's a RC club where I live but they only do speedboats. Looking for a club in your area? Check the NRG web site's list below. We are lucky to have 3 local clubs here in the suburbs near Chicago.
I travel 30 miles to one, 12 to another and the 3rd is right here in my shop. The two clubs nearest me are about miles North and miles south. One in Philadelphia and one in Hampton Va. At one time I lived in either Philly or Hampton.
Thanks all. Your 3rd club sounds like its one you started. Am I correct? If so, what would one do to start a club? No, I didn't start the club that meets here at my shop. We just celebrated our 90th year of existence - none of the original members are still around but we do have a retired neurosurgeon who attended club meetings when he was a teen.
The club always met in various YMCAs until the last one divided our meeting room up and when the person at the head of the table needed to leave the room everybody on one side of the table had to get up and leave the room so there was a clear path to the door!
That's what prompted the move to my shop. Check the NRG web site link below to the Resources section where clubs are listed. There are 4 in GA - the last two might be radio control clubs from their names. You might want to make a post in the clubs section here on MSW asking if there are MSW members near you or a club that isn't listed if you find any not listed ask them to contact us so we can put them on the resources list.
If there are other MSW members near you they might be interested in forming a club. We do assist NRG members in setting up clubs.
